Kansal & Nepli: 3245 hectares of land of Chandigarh comes under forest. These forest lands come under the hills. Main forests are around Sukhna Lake, Sukhna Choe and Patiala ki Rao. On moving towards hills, a forest near village Kansal is a reserve. A large area of forest is preserved intact without altering the ecosystem at any level and one can get a real feel of a forest. Inside this forest, a rest house surrounded by beautiful grassy lawns and flower beds is built. Another nearby reserve forest is Nepli. Nepli is a thick forest as compared to Kansal and full of wildlife. Small hills surround the Nepli from two sides. A small rest house amidst green and flowery lawns is a resting place for the visitors. Entry pass is required for the visiting there reserved forests.
Forest Trek: The trek is 8 km long and runs over three hillocks and has a steep gradient. Trek originates at Nepli Forest Lodge and finishes at Kansal Forest Lodge. This trek is a very educative trek very popular among wildlife lovers. The trek introduces a diverse flora and fauna as one progresses into the forest. Permission has to be sought from the Chief Wile Life Warden before commencing on the trek.
